Genesee Valley Central School District Wins Generator Z Grant

Genesee Valley Central School District (GVSD) in Allegany County, New York was one of 93 schools from Western New York or Eastern Michigan to secure a 2021 Generator Z Grant sponsor by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. The initiative began as an “ideas platform” that launched in 2020 for teens to reimagine the future of afterschool. The project, powered by Lakeshore Connections, together with the Foundation announced $4,093,181 in grant awards for nonprofit after school providers ranging between $10,000 and $100,000.

GVCSD captured nearly $50,000 in funding to launch Project Adventure, an after school club designed to provide high-interest, kinesthetic, engaging experiences for students ages 13 to 18. Project Adventure is an outlet from schoolwork and family where students push out of their comfort zone in physically challenging activities to develop their fullest potential with support from trained group leaders. For most students, the challenge venues provide opportunities to visit parks and recreation facilities they would otherwise not have an opportunity to explore. Students have fun as they gain knowledge and confidence, develop environmental awareness and survival skills, and achieve certifications in first aid and other real-life transferrable skills.
